How to Install Kodi on Sony Android TV

  • Install Kodi app (downloadable from Google Play Store) to your Android TV.
  • Configure the Kodi app to watch the content stored on the network immediately,

Or if you wish to stream content from the Internet,

  • Install the appropriate Add-Ons available various Depositories (Instruction Here)
  • Viola, your can now sit back and enjoy the world brought to by true Smart TV

Installing Kodi the long-winded way:

If for some reason, you can’t download Kodi from the Google Play Store, here’s another way to install it onto your Android TV device.

  1. Go to Android TV’s “Settings” panel and scroll to “Security & Restrictions”.

  2. Turn on “Unknown Sources” to allow for installation of apps outside of the Google Play Store.

  3. Download Kodi for Android from Kodi’s download page – depending on your hardware, you need to select either the ARM or x86 version.

  4. Copy the downloaded .apk file to Google Drive or a USB drive and plug it into your Android TV.

  5. Navigate to where you saved the .apk file using ES File Explorer or any other file management app.

  6. Open the .apk file to be asked if you’d like to install Kodi and select “Install”.

  7. Once the file has finished transferring across to your device, you’ll be asked once again if you’d like to install Kodi. Select “Install”.

  8. Kodi will install and work exactly as if it was downloaded from the Google Play Store.

  9. Configure Kodi so you can see the content you have stored in the network right away. Or,

  10. Install the appropriate Add-Ons available various Depositories if you wish to stream content from the Internet (Instruction Here)
  11. Done.

  • On your TV’s touchpad remote, press HOME.
  • Navigate to and click on SETTINGS, it’s all the way at the bottom.
  • Under the TV section, scroll to and click on ABOUT.
  • Scroll down to BUILD, and click on the item 7 times, you should see “You are now a developer” on screen.
    • This will also give you access to the Developer Options menu under System Preferences.
  • Press BACK on your remote.
  • Navigate to PERSONAL>SECURITY & RESTRICTIONS, and turn Unknown Sources ON.
  • Press HOME on your remote and navigate to the Google Play Store.
  • Search for “es” and install ES File Explorer.
  • Download Kodi v15.2
  • Copy the APK to a USB drive, and insert the drive into your TV’s USB port.
  • You should see a “USB Connected” prompt on the TV.
  • Start ES File Explorer by clicking the tile on the home menu.
  • Inside of ES File explorer, on the left panel, scroll down until you see the LOCAL column, there will be a device called USB**** (last numbers vary).
  • Click on USB****, then click OPEN, grant access by saying OK, then click on your downloaded Kodi APK and install it.
  • That’s it! Press HOME on your remote and Kodi should be available and run without any problems!
